CSUMB Week 4

Part One: Set Your Educational Goals
My education goal is rather simple; complete this program to achieve a Bachelors degree in Computer Science. I hope this degree will enable me to push my career forward. I feel like I should put more information here but, that's really all there is to it. I don't intend on pursuing a Masters or PHD.
Part Two: Set Your Career Goals
My goal in my career is to contribute to something that I feel proud of or good about. There are so many projects that would meet that criteria and it would be amazing if I could enter the clean energy, video game or preservation spaces somehow. Software Engineering is apart of all of our lives so there are possibilities to do this and make a comfortable livable income.
Part Three: Take a wild guess of your percentile of the ETS Computer Science test
Guys, the copyright on this test is 2015 and the content looks like it's even older than that. I understand that the concepts outlined in this test are important but, I hope there are much more better more relevant ways to go over these topics. It is 2025 and we have javascript running on firmware devices nowadays. I would probably pass this test with a 70% score since this material is familiar to me but, it is ancient by today's standards. These logic puzzles can be represented in much clearer ways.
Part Four: Keep Up With Your Learning Journal
This week I discovered a fear that a lot of the content in this course will not be relevant to the work environment many students will be stepping into. The writing skills and logic skills are timeless sure but, the next class covers Java and if it requires me to install Java 8 I may throw up my hands in dismay.
These old versions of programming languages can be obtuse at times and are missing a lot of key features that makes developers lives easier and code easier to read. It may get in the way of some learning.

Hey Michael,
I agree with your analysis of this class's content in the workforce and the ETS test. I think achieving the BS in CS, combined with your current skills, will allow you to enter the fields you are interested in, such as clean energy, video games, or preservation spaces. I am sure you'll accomplish your goals with your current approaches.
Hi Michael,
Your goals are quite straightforward, and you and I seem to share similar goals. I agree that the CSUMB CS Online program will bolster the skills that you already know from working in the field. I did not know that the ETS test was that outdated, so that is something I will have to definitely watch out for. Hopefully it is adapted to modern standards by the time we take this exam.
