What did you expect a course in Software Engineering would cover?   

My expectation were that this course would be broad based and relevant to developing technology in the modern day and age.

After completing week 1, how has your opinion changed? 

The lab 1 was quite refreshing. I appreciate the professor's stance on AI and I can feel the deep well of knowledge and experience that he has. I am finally learning to appreciate spring boot and why there is so much scaffolding when making a simple web request. Before this week DTO's seemed like an unnecessary pain and I have years of development experience.

I dont know if I will ever truly appreciate Java Web Servers. There are just too many magic syntax and strings for me to remember even with AI assistance. But, with the professor's explanation I finally understand the goals each piece of the system is trying to achieve and now I can remember to incorporate them in whatever web stack I choose to use.

Authorization, error handling, validation, testing, etc are all important pieces of a well designed web server.
